Independent School Art Competition Inspires Young Talent at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate recently had the honour of hosting the prestigious ISA Northern Area Independent School Art Competition, an annual event that celebrates and nurtures young creative talent within the independent school art community.

The competition welcomed students from 20 independent schools across the region, with their artwork ranging from traditional painting to innovative 3D design, all aiming for a place in the national finals in Kenilworth on the 14th of November 2024.

Exceptional Talent Across Independent School Art Categories

The competition offered students from Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 13 the chance to compete in various categories, including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, fashion, and textiles. This wide range allowed students to explore diverse artistic expressions, showcasing a vibrant spectrum of creativity that set this year’s independent school art competition apart.

Local renowned artist Nel Whatmore, known for her work across multiple art forms, served as the judge, lending her expertise and keen eye for detail to evaluate the submissions. Nel was impressed by the remarkable skill and creativity displayed by students across all year groups. Her thoughtful feedback provided valuable insights, inspiring the young artists to continue exploring their potential in the arts.

Queen Ethelburga’s Success and Commitment to Independent School Art

Queen Ethelburga's entered 18 outstanding pieces created by students across its Collegiate, reflecting the school’s dedication to fostering artistic talent and encouraging students to express themselves through art. This commitment to independent school art is part of QE’s broader mission to provide students with a well-rounded education that nurtures both academic and creative abilities.

The winners from Queen Ethelburga's and other participating schools will advance to represent the Northern area at the national finals. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of the students and the support from their teachers and schools in promoting artistic pursuits alongside academic excellence.
