Welfare at Queen Ethelburga's

Our welfare ethos is dedicated to safeguarding the physical, social, and mental health of every member of our community.

We emphasise the importance of self-care, as well as the responsibility to care for others, creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

‘To promote happiness, positive health and community safety.’

Throughout the year, we organise dedicated Welfare Weeks that spotlight crucial aspects of wellbeing such as physical exercise, quality sleep, healthy eating, and staying safe.

These initiatives are a collaborative effort between our pastoral and welfare teams, alongside our Welfare Ambassadors, ensuring that the message resonates with students of all ages.

How do we cultivate happiness, positive health, and safety within the QE community?

Welfare at Queen Ethelburga’s extends beyond the classroom. We actively engage the entire community—students, parents, and staff—in fostering a positive, healthy, and secure environment. Our approach includes:

  • Open Communication with Parents: Keeping parents informed and involved in their child’s welfare.

  • Comprehensive Staff Training: Every staff member receives extensive training in safeguarding to ensure they can support our students effectively.

  • Student Welfare Ambassadors: We empower students to take on leadership roles in promoting welfare among their peers.

For those requiring additional support, our exceptional safeguarding team is here to help. This includes:

  • A team of seven trained safeguarding staff members.

  • A dedicated mental health school counsellor.

  • An independent listener, providing an additional layer of support outside the school’s safeguarding team.

  • Close collaboration with a local child psychologist to address any specific needs.
