F1 Update - Penultimate Race

Spring Season - F1: The Penultimate Race

F1 raced their penultimate race this week in preparation for our final showdown, taking place live in Oxford at the end of the month.

Our Captain has been working really hard to make sure Q-Esports is ready for life without him next year. He’s worked tirelessly this week to train some new arrivals to the school — watch this space to see how L fits into the team when she fully joins QE next term!

After some hard work with R, the Captain decided to give him the opportunity to represent QE in the most recent race — and what a decision that turned out to be! R finished 9th in his first-ever race for Q-Esports, immediately putting points on the board. And that’s not all: a great performance from Z put him in 8th position, securing even more points for Team QE.

It’s difficult to talk about the race without highlighting how R and Z acted like they’ve been racing together for years. An instant partnership. R was so calm, so self-assured. It’s strange how quickly Q-Esports players get their head in the game — R was jittery in training, getting annoyed with himself for missing braking points at corners and going way too quickly into the pit lane. But in the race, he went straight into race mode. Only twice did I ask him how he was doing, and both times he responded with nothing more than, “Alright, yeah.”

There will undeniably be a very big hole in Q-Esports when our Captain leaves for pastures new at the end of the year — but he’s making sure he leaves something even bigger: a legacy. With the new generation coming through, it’s exciting to see where we’ll go next.
