Esports - Week One - Winter Season

Esports Pre-Season Friendly - "Welcome to Q-Esports!"

Welcome back to Esports! This year, we have four incredible teams participating, doubling the number from last year! Everyone did so incredibly well that it set a trend, and now everybody wants to hop on board!

We have two teams competing in the Esports game, Valorant: The A team, captained by Peter, and the B team, captained by Carrie. Ihor and James serve as vice-captains of the A and B teams, respectively. Cody captains the F1 team and we're still working on the structure of the Minecraft team... Watch this space!!

The Valorant teams will play two seasons each: Winter and Spring. Carrie's team competes in the Open League, a very competitive group that challenges everyone involved. Peter's team, however, will compete in the Nationals. Thanks to their incredible performance last year, they've earned the right to play among the best in the country. Their match against David Beckham's team last year received rave reviews and widespread publicity; his team play at an incredibly high standard each week in the Nationals. It is the highest level of competition our school can reach - the Esports equivalent of the youth Premier League. I'm so proud that we get to represent ourselves against the toughest opponents in the country. I gave Peter the option of staying in the Open League this season, and he didn't hesitate - he wanted his players to face the best.

Okay, onto the matches:

Valorant A vs Tameside Titans

Wow. I tried to keep it to myself before the game, but I had spent some time wondering how our players would handle the increased pressure of the Nationals. "The best of the best," as the Head of Education at British Esports refers to it. Best of the best.

Our players stood alongside the best and decided to be a little bit better.

The final score? 13-1.

Thirteen rounds won, with only one round conceded. A brilliant, clinical victory. It's a testament to the professionalism of the team that they were annoyed to have dropped the one round. A very special mention to Ihor, who was annoyed at me last time out for highlighting Hannah's brilliance in our rematch against Beckham's team, decided to prove a point. He delivered one of the single best performances I've ever seen. Ihor was utterly outstanding. He's worked incredibly hard to the point that he's in the top 0.5% of players in the world, and the difference he brought to this match was astonishing. He had more than five times the number of kills as the top player on the opposition team and he remained humble, too.

"Why are we doing well?" He asked rhetorically in round 7. "Because we're Team QE."

Valorant B vs CC Warriors

Carrie's debut as a captain, and the team's first competitive fixture. I've made it clear to Carrie that I've never doubted her ability to lead, but she's nonetheless impressed me with her planning for this match.

It paid off. A 13-4 victory against a strong team from Wales in their very first game. The team came out with an exciting, explosive energy, winning twelve rounds without reply before CC managed to secure a couple. Vice-captain James was superb here - rallying the troops and ensuring everyone kept their heads- silly mistakes can cost a game, even at the late stages, and he kept the discipline tight.

In summary: Two games, and two massive opening wins. Top of the league for both teams. The best possible start to the season.
